6 June, 8.00 pm, Swedish Film Goes Capri - Make Democracy Great Again
In the documentary Make Democracy Great Again, Swedish journalist Jan Scherman investigates one of the most urgent questions of our time: will democracy survive? The film portrays a growing democratic decline and examines the threats facing both Sweden and the wider world.Through examples from Sweden, Hungary, England, South Africa and the United States, the film explores freedom of expression, inequality, extremism, civic engagement and declining trust in institutions. At the same time, Make Democracy Great Again looks for the places where resistance, hope and new forms of democratic engagement are still possible.
In connection with the screening, Villa San Michele invites the audience to reflect on the role of culture, journalism and public debate in defending democracy.
